Every wonderfully wacky character, from Artie to Bunny, to Bananas to Ronnie, to Billy to Corinna, and to a group of crazy nuns, are all searching for that ambiguous something that fame represents. They make us question: Which of these characters are really normal? And the question continues to linger at the end of the play.

But, what is normal? In today’s world of reality television, creating fame out of normal people makes The House of Blue Leaves more relevant now than ever before!

“As a little girl growing up in McKeesport, Pa., Renee Richman Weisband dreamed big dreams.

“My dad had taken me to see the “Al Jolson Story,’ and I decided that I wanted to be just like Jolson. I was desperate to perform and make people happy.”

Weisband still has that yearning, as she will be demonstrating as one of the stars of a production of Arthur Miller’s “Broken Glass,” a compelling portrait of what it meant to be Jewish — and American — back in 1938 Brooklyn.

An Isis Productions offering, the play will be performed at the Walnut Street Theatre’s Studio Five through April 4.”
